Andrea Evans

Both the miniseries The Awakening Land and the 1978 Brian De Palma picture The Fury included Evans as an extra. Evans was quickly cast as Tina Clayton on the ABC daytime serial series One Life to Live, where she remained until 1981 thanks to casting director Mary Jo Slater. In The Young and the Restless from 1983 to 1984, Evans portrayed Patty Williams, Paul Williams’ younger sister, and Jack Abbott’s wife.

In 1985, Evans made a comeback on One Life to Live, taking part in a plot that is credited with setting the show “back on course” and ultimately catapulting Tina to the height of her fame. She has five times graced the cover of Soap Opera Digest and was nominated for a Daytime Emmy Award in 1988 for Outstanding Ingenue on One Life to Live. From 1986 until 1990, Evans was featured on the cover of Soap Opera Digest each year.

Evans unexpectedly left One Life to Live in January 1990 and disappeared from the public eye for over ten years. Years later, she admitted that the reason she had left was to get away from a persistent stalker who had even broken into the ABC studios in New York City with the intention of murdering her. Along with ABC security, co-star Fiona Hutchison attempted to dislodge the stalker from Evans. The stalker issue had received a lot of negative coverage at the time. After divorcing her longtime love interest Cord Roberts, the character Tina from One Life to Live relocated to California.

Evans talked about working with Rebecca Schaeffer, who played Annie Barnes on One Life to Live for six months in 1985, in an episode of the CBS News program 48 Hours from 2005. Evans also mentioned how it was Schaeffer’s murder by her own stalker in August 1989 that ultimately prompted Evans to leave One Life to Live in January 1990.

In the 1990s, Evans produced two full-length films, appearing in Ice Cream Man in 1995 and A Low Down Dirty Shame in 1994. Evans returned to television in 1999, appearing on The Bold and the Beautiful as Tawny, Amber Moore’s “trashy” mother, until the year 2000. She replaced Maureen McCormick, whose ten-episode run on the NBC serial opera Passions had ended, in that year, and assumed the character of Rebecca Hotchkiss Crane, playing it until the show’s last episode. Years of rumors about Evans’ potential comeback to her One Life to Live character of Tina were fed by her long-running recurring position on Passions.

It was revealed in July 2007 that she will remain with the show for its continuing run on DirecTV after NBC canceled Passions. Although fresh episodes of Passions continued to air on DirecTV through August 2008, the show’s filming ended in March 2008.

Evans was questioned about her favorite role outside of the one she is currently playing on Passions in the June 26, 2007 issue of Soap Opera Digest. She responded, “That’s an easy one… Tina Lord Roberts on One Life to Live because in every actor’s life, you hope for a role that becomes bigger than yourself, and for me, Tina was that role.” Evans’ impending comeback as Tina was confirmed by ABC in April 2008; on June 11, 2008, she did so.

On April 6, 2010, TVGuide.com reported that Tawny, Evans’ character from The Bold and the Beautiful, will be making a comeback to The Young and the Restless instead of Patty Williams. On May 12, 2010, the only episode of the run broadcast. Evans’ temporary return to The Bold and the Beautiful as Tawny was announced on November 8 of the same year.

Evans, who was still making regular appearances on B&B, played Tina again on OLTL on September 27, 2011, just as the show’s tenure was coming to an end. In the plot, John Loprieno’s character Cord Roberts and Tina, who played him in the 1980s super couple, were reunited. Her brief reign came to an end on November 15, 2011, when Cord and Tina were wedded.

Evans played a minor character in the Joey Lawrence movie Hit List in 2012. Evans was chosen to play Vivian Price in the fourth season of the online series DeVanity in August 2013, and the season was streamed in 2014. She received the 2015 Indie Series Award for Best Guest Actress in a Drama for the role, and she was nominated for a 2015 Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Performer in a New Approaches Drama Series.

Evans served as executive producer of the 2018 documentary Rocking the Couch.
